I fell off the wagon...
Hi everyone!
I’ve been wanting to return to writing for a while now. Truth is, I fell off the alkaline wagon and it’s been tough getting back on! I know it’s no excuse, but my life took some unexpected turns. Let me rewind to fill you in –
In 2012-2013 I had completely healed my Psoriasis by following Dr. Pagano’s alkaline 80/20 diet. As you guys know I wrote about my journey that entire year. Then in April of 2013 I met the man of my dreams and allowed myself to veer from the diet a bit in order to go out and enjoy myself while dating, you know, go to romantic dinners, share a bottle of wine, dessert, etc. Sugar Sugar Sugar!! For a few months my skin seemed to be fine, completely unaffected. Then in July of that year I had a terrible fall and had hamstring surgery. The rest of 2013 feels like a blur having had a tough long recovery. That entire recovery it was all about eating “conveniently.” This is where I ask you to imagine me hopping around my studio apartment in NYC on crutches! Not to mention the weeks of people having to take care of me or the medications I was taking.
What do you think happened next? You got it, small spots of Psoriasis started appearing very slowly. I can’t express the disappointment I felt seeing those spots after living life without them for an entire year & a half. Even after those small spots appeared I couldn’t find enough strength inside of me to re-commit to the alkaline lifestyle 100%. I liked not thinking about everything I put in my mouth! I liked going to a bar & having a Guinness! I liked the feeling of freedom in the world of food! Well, what do you think happened next? You got it, the spots started appearing on my elbows, legs, scalp, even a spot here & there would appear on my torso, ears & breast. I decided I had to get out Dr. Pagano’s book, dust it off and start anew, this time READY to commit! It’s great to know you have the power and control to heal yourself, but sometimes the hardest part is getting motivated and inspired!
I started my journey in Jan 2015 and even though I’ve veered a little here & there I’m doing well, I have seen a ton of progress. The thing is, it’s different this time around. My skin is being extra stubborn. My body is being extra sensitive to foods that it wasn’t 2 years ago. At first I figured this was because maybe I was eating more like a 60/40 alkaline/acidic ratio, not 80/20, but the more alkaline I ate these last few months my skin remained the same. I get nutritional response testing done each month and my practitioner tested me for food sensitivities to confirm it’s definitely food related which it was. For those of you who don’t know what NRT is, it’s a non-invasive system of analyzing the body to determine the underlying causes of illness and non-optimum health. There’s a wonderful description on this website – https://www.holistichealingandnutrition.com/2011/12/what-is-nutrition-response-testing/
So at this point I’m deep into my journey on a mission to find what works for me and hopefully that can help others too. I’m also realizing what an individual journey this is! Everyone’s body is sensitive to different foods, so it’s truly a matter of us all going on an elimination diet to see what the issues are which can take a long time in some cases. I have decided to write a book about my journey and I have lined up some wonderful interviews with people like you who are suffering and healed themselves through food, herbs, teas, self care & lots of love. If any of you have a beautiful, successful story to share please let me know! In the meantime, I look forward to updating you on my journey which I feel is truly beginning for me right now. My hope is to help as many people with this horrible disease as I can:) We are in this together! Love you guys!
